We present you different suggestions for pairing cava with Christmas meals

Christmas is coming and so are the gatherings with family and friends, where food and drink are one of the main protagonists. If you are in charge of choosing the drink for each meal, we want to make your choice easy so that you can make sure that the chosen menu pairs perfectly. In this case, we make you a suggestion for Cava (and not wine) to make this event more special.

Starters and main courses
Cava is a good accompaniment for a wide variety of typical Christmas dishes thanks to its freshness, balanced acidity and fine bubbles. We show you several main courses and their most suitable cava pairing.

1. Escudella (traditional catalan soup) with Cava Bohigas Brut Nature Reserva
The freshness and acidity of cava help to balance the smoothness of the broth and fatty ingredients such as meat and meatball. In this case, we have chosen a cava from the reserve range (aged for 18 months) and without added sugars so as not to overwhelm a soft dish with sugar or aromas from long aging.

2. Roast lamb with Cava Bohigas Brut Nature Gran Reserva
A Gran Reserva cava (aged for 30 months) will give us more body and toasted aromas, which complement the richness of the roast lamb, enhancing its flavours without covering them up.

3. Roasted/oven-baked suckling pig with Cava Bohigas Extra Brut Gran Reserva
The acidity and freshness of the cava help to cleanse the mouth of the fat from the suckling pig, making each sip after eating the dish a complete experience. In addition, the suckling pig's gelatin accompanies us with the subtle sugary touch of the Extra Brut.

4. Fish and seafood zarzuela with Cava Noa by Bohigas
The breadth of aromas of this bivarietal cava (Pinot noir-xarel lo) that fuses white and red fruits, citrus and floral, together with the light toasted notes of the 18-month aging in contact with the yeast, complement very well the fish in sauce. The acidity and freshness of the Noa cava cleanse the palate and highlight the flavours of the fish and seafood without overwhelming the nuances of the dish.

5. Cannelloni with Cava Bohigas Brut Nature Gran Reserva
The intense flavours of the bechamel and the meat filling are complemented by the structure and toasted notes of an aged cava.

Desserts and sweets
Dessert and cava are the finishing touches to a well-rounded Christmas meal. Which cava pairs best with each type of dessert? We'll tell you.

1. Almond nougat with Cava Bohigas Extra Brut Gran Reserva
The toasted and nutty notes from the ageing process and the sweet touch of the Extra Brut pair perfectly with the almond nougat.

2. Chocolate nougat with Cava Bohigas Rosat
The light acidity and fruity notes of the rosé cava are balanced by the intensity of the chocolate.

3. Dark chocolate panettone with Cava Bohigas Semi-sec Reserva
The fruity notes and sweetness of the cava combine perfectly with the soft texture of the panettone bun.

4. King cake with Cava Bohigas Brut Reserva
Ideal combination for a roscón without filling or with light fillings (cream or pastry cream), as they balance the sweetness of the dessert without overwhelming the palate.

Cheers and merry christmas!
