Cavas Bohigas is a cellar creating wines and cavas with more than eight centuries of history. It is located in the privileged surroundings of the "Anoia river basin", in Òdena, more specifically, at the cellars and vineyards of Can Macià, with more than 35 hectares of vineyard on 200 hectares of property including vineyards, cereal crops and woodland.
The cellar currently employ a team of fourteen people, and the annual production is close to 500,000 bottles, 450,000 bottles of cava and 50,000 of wine.
Over the last thirteen years or so, as to gain entry to the foreign market, Bohigas has formed part of Terra Nostra de Vinos, a consortium comprised of five cellars with different designations of origin. More than 80% of the production is distributed to the foreign market.
The first documents referring to CanMacià (then called Mas Moragues) date from the thirteenth century.
Since those times, the estate has always been in the hands of the same family, although the surname has changed, and with it, the name of the house.
In 1933, Joan VivesGibert reorganised the productive structure of Can Macià to elaborate cellar aged sparkling wines that first appeared on the market during the Christmas of 1936.
As of that time and until today, the family tradition has continued, adding forces of technological innovation and improved quality.
Today, Maria Casanovas Giró and his father, Jordi Casanovas Bohigas, a descendants of the family who have owned Can Macià since its origins, organise and manage the estate and its cellar. Ariadna Casanovas Giró, Jordi's eldest daughter and Maria's sister, is in charge of exports. For her part, Victoria Giró -married to Jordi, and mother of Ariadna and Maria-, is the proprietor of Can BatlleVell, where they have created a modern cellar designed by Victoria herself as she is an architect.
